ArgoBeat — Brainwave-Inspired Audio

ArgoBeat generates brainwave-inspired audio on-the-fly, directly in your browser. No signup, no tracking, no costs.

How It Works

ArgoBeat uses two common audio techniques often associated with brainwave-oriented listening tools:

Binaural Beats

Two slightly different frequencies (e.g., 200Hz and 210Hz) played in opposite ears create a phantom beat frequency (10Hz) that some listeners use as a focus or relaxation aid.

Best for: Meditation, sleep, subtle entrainment Requires: Headphones

Isochronic Tones

A single tone pulses on/off at your target frequency (e.g., 10 times per second).

Best for: Focus, engagement, active sessions Requires: Speakers or headphones (flexible)

Modes

Mode Frequency Use Case Duration
Focus 10 Hz (Alpha) Reading, detail work, calm concentration 25 min
Work 14 Hz (Beta) Meetings, coding, active tasks 45 min
Deep Work 18 Hz (Beta) Sustained focus, complex problem-solving 90 min
Sleep 2.5 Hz (Delta) Rest, bedtime wind-down, sleep routines 30 min
Relax 8 Hz (Alpha) Wind down, destress, meditation 20 min
Meditate 6 Hz (Theta) Mindfulness, introspection, peace 20 min
Creative 7 Hz (Theta) Artistic expression, novel ideas, flow 30 min
Play 12 Hz (Alpha/Beta) Games, engaged fun, light focus 15 min

Soundscapes

Each mode comes with a procedurally-generated ambient soundscape:

  • Rain — Gentle rainfall with bright droplets and deep rumble — three layers of procedural synthesis
  • Forest — Rustling canopy, birdsong, and wind through branches — three layers of natural ambience
  • Ocean — Wave surges, foam hiss, and deep undertow — three layers of coastal rhythm
  • Cafe — Murmured conversation, clinking cups, and ambient hum — three layers of coffeehouse atmosphere
  • Fire — Sharp crackle, steady roar, and warm rumble — three layers of hearthside warmth
  • Space — Stellar shimmer, deep drone, and cosmic whisper — three layers of ethereal vastness

All soundscapes are generated on-the-fly using Web Audio API synthesis — no audio files, no bandwidth costs.

Audio That Never Repeats

ArgoBeat uses prime-length noise buffers (29s, 31s, 37s per layer) that loop independently. The combined audio doesn't repeat for over 9 hours. Combined with dynamic filter evolution that slowly sweeps frequencies on 35-90 second cycles, every moment sounds unique.

Session Tracking

ArgoBeat tracks your listening history locally in your browser (never sent to any server):

  • Total sessions completed
  • Total minutes listened
  • Per-mode breakdown
  • A gentle chime plays when your session completes

AI Music Generation (New in v1.1)

ArgoBeat can optionally generate unique, professional-quality instrumental music for each session using AI, instead of ambient soundscapes.

How It Works

  1. You press Play — the ambient soundscape starts instantly (no waiting)
  2. In the background, ArgoBeat generates unique music tailored to your mode
  3. When the music is ready (~30-60 seconds), it crossfades in smoothly
  4. The soundscape ducks to a subtle background texture
  5. Every session gets completely different music

Audio Source Modes

  • Soundscape (default) — Procedural ambient sounds (rain, ocean, etc.)
  • Music — AI-generated instrumental music only
  • Both — Music with subtle soundscape texture underneath

What Makes It Special

  • Fresh variety — every session generates unique music (rather than cycling through a small fixed catalog)
  • Mode-aware — Focus gets calm piano at 72 BPM, Sleep gets ethereal pads at 50 BPM
  • Free — runs on a local music server, no subscription needed
  • Cached — generated tracks are saved for instant replay next time

Requirements

AI music generation requires a music generation server (like MusicGen) running locally or remotely. Without a server, ArgoBeat uses its built-in synthesized soundscapes — which work great on their own.

Settings

Entrainment Method

  • Isochronic (recommended) — Works on speakers and headphones
  • Binaural — Requires headphones for proper L/R separation
  • Both — Layers both methods for a stronger audible effect

Volume Controls

  • Master — Overall output level
  • Entrainment — Beat prominence vs background
  • Soundscape — Ambience level
  • Music — AI-generated music level (when enabled)

Science

ArgoBeat's frequency presets are informed by commonly referenced research on binaural beats, isochronic tones, and attention or relaxation states:

  • Wahbeh et al. (2007) — Studied binaural beats and anxiety outcomes
  • Jirakittayakorn et al. (2017) — Explored isochronic tones and attention-related effects
  • Becher et al. (2015) — Examined entrainment and alertness

Research in this area is still evolving, and results can vary from person to person. ArgoBeat is intended as a wellness, focus, and relaxation tool — not a medical device or treatment.

Tips

  1. Use headphones for best results with binaural beats
  2. Start with Focus mode (10Hz alpha) if you are new to entrainment
  3. Sit comfortably — avoid stimulating activities during sessions
  4. Stay consistent — regular 25-minute sessions can help you build a routine
  5. Experiment — different modes work better for different people and times of day

Privacy and Cost

ArgoBeat is 100% client-side — all synthesis happens in your browser. Nothing is tracked, stored, or charged.

Browser support: Chrome, Firefox, Safari 14.5+, Edge (any modern browser with Web Audio API support).
